| Solid Black. A line has been drawn in the sand and a choice has been demanded, but most can not relate to either side of that line and would prefer more alternatives. Politicians work hard to spread the gap between rich and poor when most of their citizens believe all belong comfortably in the middle. George W. Bush declared, "You're either with us or against us," when most of the world wants as little to do with his military capitalism as they do with Osama bin Laden's religious fanaticism. Corporations make us choose between a healthy environment or a healthy economy when both are possible with a rejection of instant obscene profit. We live in a world that demands conformity to a fake plastic ideal of body image and outward physical appearance instead of a natural diversity of stylistic expression and individual inner beauty. Religious organizations offer their philosophies and meaning of life or else eternal damnation in hell, when most enlightened people know it takes much more than a pledge of faith and a cash donation to achieve contention through spirituality. The vast majority of people today have been given no variety of feasible options that represent their beliefs or lifestyles. Disenfranchised with the current choices available to them, they find themselves in an angry, rebellious state of mind. They float in a dark, meaningless void. An abrasive, explosive new musical entity from Vancouver is using it's fierce, hyper-amplified voice to vent the frustrations of the world's powerless; a living, breathing, writhing mass of unconquered slaves chained to the flesh-grinding wheel of oppression. This is music that spits on the line in the sand and unites the diverse peoples of the world to crush those who would stand to profit from our confusion and disorganization. The money-craving, power-hungry few who manipulate us, program us, and turn us against one another shall watch their empire burn to the ground. And as they rummage through the smoldering remains of their male-dominated, war-mongering, fear-driven society, they will find themselves in a very dark place indeed, best described as Solid Black. I meet Solid Black threw myspace.com and If you are like me and from a dark place from time to time, Solid Black is a sure way to get to another outlet and bring you into awhole other world. Check out there music if you dare!!! |

The Pot Stirrers

The Pot Stirrers are James J. Pink, the guitar player, singer/songwriter, on and off bassist, etc. and Black Irish Kinsey, the guitar player, backup vocalist, and miscellaneous stringer. They're full of classic and new blues, covers and originals, the same with reggae aawwhhh yah with crazy roots blended country and jazz but only a bit probably. Music is coming to the page pretty soon. Alright! and Oh yeah!

Yer Blues

Yer Blues is the next musical adventure for Ben Abel, singer songwriter guitarist from Vancouver, BC. Having just spent the last three and half years ripping leads for Vancouver based band Slytone, a new musical horizon has now presented itself. Mold the genres of blues and rock together in a style reminiscent of Canadian giants Big Sugar and make it fun to play and listen to music again. Sound simple? It really is. The blues element of the band comes from a passion for the Chicago style blues of artists like Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, and Otis Rush. The rock side of things comes from Ben’s interest in the Beatles and the Who at 17 and in other British bands of the 60’s particularly John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Cream. Peter’s Green’s Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones also play a part in the musical psyche of this project too. Throw in a sprinkle of reggae a la Toots and the Maytals and you have the complex musical package that is Yer Blues. Keep checking back here for more info on us including shows, music and updates. We will have a website soon too at yerbluesmusic.com First show is Friday May 25th, 07. at Trees Coffee House.

I meet Ben threw Skytone and am looking forward to hearing his new sound. Even though the members of Slytone are going there own ways, they all sound maybe even alittle better, but I am going to miss the song"Loving you".
Ninjaspy

Ninjaspy arose with the dawn of the year of six, embodied by the Triad in Blood: Joel, Adam And Tim. They have risen above the mire of their faceless six year muse and focused their sights on the mission objectives at hand: Swift, surgical amalgamation of a spectrum of styles, eradication of narrow mindedness, enablement of total freedom of expression and covert infiltration of every earthen sinew in their chosen path in order to facilitate real connections with others; Interactions that are the life blood of a meaningful human existence.
The Triad in Blood: Joel, Vocals/Guitar. Adam, Drums. Tim, Bass.

I heard about Ninjaspy threw Christian from Rednyne Productions. I was meaning to check them out a few times, but something always came up. So I finally got to check them out April 11th at the Red room. Right than, Connie and I became there new fans. I love how there songs are all mixed of funk, rock, metal and other beats that make them such a unique sound.
On top of that there really entertaining as and because of that they have a huge fan base.
Joel is one of the coolest people I've ever seen on stage. First he has a thing that goes on his eyes and its has a green lazer come out of it, that it looks awsome! He also uses a dagger for the slides on his guitar that looks so cool, I haven't seen that before. Also for the song, Circle Play Joel actually comes out to the crowd and has them start a circle that he leads till he gets back on stage. The fans make a circle and takes turns going in it to make dance moves. That is awsome everytime to see. Tim is cool too. He does alot of dance moves and kicks while he plays the bass and also comes out to the crowd. Adam's the drummer, so he can't do much, but it wouldn't be the same without him, he has wicked beats. In any case, Connie and I are both fans outside of the show, so u can be sure to see us at a Ninjaspy show too. I hope you check them out!

Joel and the Last of the Neighbours
Members:
Joel: guitar + singingSean: guitar + singing
Barry: bass
Jeff: drums
Jesse: keys + singing
Synopsis:
On a street corner in Vancouver five years ago, three future Neighbours sat in a white station wagon. Joel had traditionally played solo and was about to take that sound across the country. Sean, needing a ride to the east coast, opted to pay his way in guitar work and Barry quickly confirmed that his bass would not be left out of the idea. Later that night, Jeff caught wind and it was obvious that he was going because no self-respecting rock band is devoid of a drummer. In six weeks, the newly formed band learned about a dozen songs and, much to many a friend's disbelief, the typically sober Joel leaves town with a bunch of alcoholic miscreants flagged as the A Minus, an homage to their main project, STATIONa.
In the wake of an unruly tour, it seemed that the band lacked a cause. STATIONa ate itself alive, shat itself into the A Minus toilet bowl and out came the Doers. Joel and the A Minus was flushed down the drain as a passing legacy and Joel turned his focus to his other band, Black Rice, while keeping his solo efforts on the side.
Months later, he was gearing up to get back in the studio for another album. It was decided that former A Minus, now the Doers, members ought to contribute to Return of the Fucked. So on a one practice refresher course they all stepped into the studio with Jesse who recorded and subsequently joined the band on organ and piano. Jesse would also later go on to replace Black Rice's bass player and continue to work together with Joel on various projects.
Love was in the air, unavoidable in the spring it seemed, and somehow the Last of the Neighbours was conceived; an identity rooted in the tenacity of good times, a membership limited to the idealistic with a love for the songs and a decent barbeque. The band survived in the shadow of their larger lives, lurking about and causing shit when permitted. An opportunity was made in the summer of 2005, sometime after the close of Black Rice and during a lull in the Doers' schedule and they hit the road for ten days, blazing across the prairies like a brush fire.
July 14th is the start of a new tour and the release of the new double double LP, Antidote. Again in the studio with Jesse at the helm and recorded in many favourite locations hand picked for comfort and style. The music featured covers the most recent work by the band along with classic favourites that never made it to tape and a bonus slew of noise driven audio sketches by Joel from the last decade of home recording, plus a music video to boot, created by the Neighbours' number one supporter, Kevin Hagell and Joel. The sound of the album it is largely like a gang of your friends hanging out in your back yard.
Teaming up with Jesse's band Ghost House, featuring some guest work from Joel, the two Vancouver bands are set to hang out all over Canada for a very solid month and they are all quite pleased about it.

from the Georgia Straight. written by Elaine Corden. For those even remotely familiar with Vancouver's independent-music scene, chances are you've already heard Jesse Gander's work. Both as a recording engineer at the Vancouver indie scene's studio of choice, the Hive, and as a musician who's played in too many bands to count—Black Rice, dbs, and Operation Makeout, to name a few—Gander is an essential figure in the local community, so busy with other projects that it's no wonder it's taken this long for his own songs to come to the fore. Judging by Ghost House's debut album, Departures, it's been worth the wait. Finding Gander backed by some of Vancouver's most talented musicians, the disc has proven to be a sleeper hit, winning converts with genre-spanning ambition and pop-melody sensibilities. With con?tributions from Cadeaux's Katie Lapi, the Seams' Steve Matheson and Marissa Johnson, and former Witness Protection Program drummer Allan Boyle, Departures is perhaps most notable for its cohesion and for not sounding like anything else coming out of Vancouver's collective-heavy scene. Piano- and melody-driven, yet utterly devoid of formula, the songs capture not so much a style as a feel. "Deathquarium" has sweet female backing vocals gilding Gander's more new wave–sounding voice, and "Arrivals" features a gentle tangle of acoustic-punk guitars. Sitting in Helen's Grill on Main Street, Gander, joined by drummer Allan Boyle, displays the humility of someone who is used to labouring on other people's recordings. As he oscillates between "intense studio guy" and "East Van band guy", his ambitions are apparent, even if he seems slightly uncomfortable talking about them. "I've actually performed a lot of the songs solo, with just piano," says Gander, who mans the ivories during Ghost House's live performances. "I wanted them to be songs that could be stripped down or added to." To that end, the band formed and recorded somewhat unconventionally. "I had the songs written already, and I think Steve offered to play bass on them, and then Al said he wanted to play. I think Katie joined us in May of 2005, and on June 30th, we recorded our first full-length record. And then Al moved to Montreal on July 1. Al came back to visit on December 22, and we played our first show, [the Departures CD-release party] on December 23." This past summer, partly in response to the positive feedback Departures received, drummer Boyle returned to Vancouver permanently, just in time for the group to play its third show before touring the country. Ghost House has hardly been a conventional band thus far—though Matheson, Boyle and Gander make up the core of the group, the lineup seems to change from show to show. A recent cross-country tour saw Joel Tong of Joel and the Last of the Neighbours (in which Gander also plays) take on Lapi's guitar parts in her absence, and others, notably ex–Red Light Sting guitarist Andy Dixon, have been known to sit in as well. While the expanding and contracting nature of Ghost House has worked well for Gander thus far, the next year will see the group create music in a more traditional setup. This fall, the band has been working in the studio on a series of EPs, all five of which will feature connecting artwork and include songs written by Boyle and Matheson. Gander initially planned to pare Ghost House down to himself, Boyle, and Matheson for the sessions, but Lapi is now back in the fold as a full-time member, and other local players have contributed in various forms. This may contradict the bandleader's initial vision of a tighter ship, but there's no mistaking his change of plans for a lack of focus. "This is something that I put a lot of time into, and a lot of money, so it's really important to me," Gander says, adding with a touch of self-consciousness: "I put a lot of heart into it as well, you know? I just can't get excited about something if my heart's not in it."
HERE IS ANOTHER BIO FROM SOMEWHERE:GHOSTHOUSE - Vancouver band Ghost House is partially comprised of former members of Operation Makeout and The WPP. Fusing rock, new wave and a jazz into a piano based rock and roll sound, producer and musician Jesse Gander heads a project which is receiving kudos for his unique angular and asymmetric melodic sound which sounds like no other act in Vancouver right now.
